Lovely knees, scraped elbows
she wishes she has lovely knees, instead she has a lovely way to see the world. she doesn't believe in umbrellas, only the stars in the midnight sky and the raindrops running down her neck, arms, legs, spine.
she does not get along with logic. logic is not wisdom, creativity is. she wakes up in the middle of the night and scribbles her thoughts on post it notes: through the forest, down to your bones.
she sits on his bed and orders one beautiful sunrise after another. she says: let's reinvent what magic is. he says, i miss your magic when you're not there, she says. where do yawns go when no one catches them?

ReplyDeleteMy name's Sunny, from England, and I'm learning Estonian (which is a hard language anyway, and I only have one book to teach me:P).
I just wanted to ask if it's okay for me to read your blog? So I can try to understand more casual Estonian speech?
I searched for Estonian blogs, and yours seemed the nicest, lol:)
I hope you can understand my English, but if not, there is my attempt at a very, very, very bad Estonian translation below >_< lol!

Anyhow, thank you for liking my blog and I must say that it's oh so very cool of you to learn estonian (or at least wanting to learn) I know it's very difficult for a foreigner to learn our language but if you need any kind of help you can contact me :)
I have to be an active blogger again, so let's see how that works out.

I know, and I think understanding spoken estonian is the hardest! When I visited there last year, my face was mostly :S when people were talking to me, lol! Aww thanks for the offer :) Hopefully one day my estonian will be as impressive as your english, and by the time I visit again, my face will be at least like :| lol!

ReplyDeletehaha, well I have been learning English for almost ten years now, so it should be good :P or actually maybe I should've written you back in Estonian.. oh well
You know it's funny that now, that you kinda need me to write in Estonian, my little inner me tells me to write in English so that more people would understand me. Even though I've always promised myself that I wouldn't start blogging in English just for fame :D
Haha, when you were here you were like :S but I'm studying Swedish now and when i first heard Swedish people talk I was like -.- *bad pocerface, Y I not understand U?* :D I hope you'll do better when you visit Estonia.
Um, I'm not sure if I should be sorry or not for correcting you, but since you are lerning then mistakes are normal. It should be 'kolme minuti pärast kaks'. Because it's in the genitive case and the word kolm changes to kolme. I hope that made sense to you. ;)
'Päikest', it's something you really can't translate. 'Päike' means sun and 'päikest' when you say it at the end of the letter kinda means something like 'I hope you have lot of sun and sunshine'. Like writing 'with best wishes' or smth. But it's informal.
btw, 'tsau' is a very good word to know :D

ReplyDeleteWell it's still impressive, because your English is better than some people who ARE actually English! Your spoken English is probably better than theirs too!
Hehe you could write back in Estonian, it could be like a little task for me:P Just don't make it crazy so it translates as something like "the elephant piano jumped over the little rainbow and fell into a monkey's lap" :/!! because that would be mean:P
Lol, aww just poke your little inner self back inside and ignore her :P
I wish I spoke Swedish now, so I could give something in return! I visited there too from Tallinn to Stockholm on a cruise. The only thing I learnt is that there's an H&M store about every 50 metres, lol!

Hah, that's exactly what I want to be asked, I love grammar (being sarcastic here) ;)
Well um, the Partitive case answers to the questions 'what' and 'whom'. Basically you use it when you can ask one of those questions about the object in the sentence. For example, 'I am washing my car' so you can ask 'what are you washing?' In Estonian it is 'Ma pesen oma autot' (word 'auto' turns into 'autot'). Or 'She's writing a letter' -> 'Ta kirjutab kirja' (word 'kiri' turns into 'kirja').
I hope it helps you at least a bit :)
